STUDENTS AGAINST VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE REMEMBERS 9.11

SEPTEMBER 11, 2002 -- OBSERVANCE ACTIVITIES
North Iredell High School

Our S.A.V.E. chapter is planning an Appreciation Lunch at our school in the cafeteria for all Law Enforcement Personnel, Firefighters, Volunteer Firefighters, etc. to come and eat lunch with their child or grandchild or step-child who attends our school. The Sheriff of Iredell County, Phil Redmond, will be joining his son and daughter for lunch that day among others who serve their community in one of these capacities. We will also be tying red, white, and blue ribbons on all the antennas of their cars as they join us and on all the cars in our students and teachers parking lots as a reminder of the Anniversary of the 9/11 tragedy.

Northern Durham High School

Our chapter will be observing the moment of remembrance. We are doing a red, white, and blue day where different classes will be wearing different colors. We are planning to organize everyone into an American flag and have an aerial picture taken.

Massey Hill Classical High School

The S.A.V.E. Chapter at Massey High will be having a blood drive in memory of the victims from September 11th. The blood drive will actually be on September 10th between 12 and 6. Radio stations have been contacted and have confirmed to show up for publicity. We are hoping to have a good community and school turnout.

James B. Hunt High School

The Hunt High School S.A.V.E. Chapter will be painting the battered women's shelter. We figured the people (mainly children) that need the promotion of non-violence and positive influence go through the shelter and the programs. We think that would be one of the better places to work on.

Eastern Alamance High School

Our school is having a ceremony that morning and our S.A.V.E. chapter wants to say the pledge of allegiance in front of the school inviting them to join us.

DH Conley High School

We have implemented many different projects to get the entire school population involved in honoring September 11th. We have created a huge flag banner, which all of the S.A.V.E. members will sign as a commitment to stop violence in our nation. We are sending the flag to National Association of S.A.V.E. in October for display. For our service project we plan to cook a spaghetti dinner for a group of local law officers in the area on Saturday, September 14th. We are delivering it to different agencies.

East Forsyth High School

My chapter is in the middle of doing a lot of things. For September 11th, we are planting red, white, and blue pansies in our garden in the form of a flag and 9/11. At East we have a lot of trees on campus so we are tying red, white, and blue ribbons around the tress. The last thing we are doing is tying balloons everywhere.

Highland School of Technology

We will be having local emergency workers on September 11th in our cafeteria. We are able to receive donations and we invited them to eat lunch with us. We are also creating a S.A.V.E. pledge banner, that Wednesday September 11th.

Northeastern High School

Our school system has implemented Character education and the word of this month is Courage. Everyone was asked to do a courage project and everyone who does it is invited to a ceremony on September 10th during 2nd block. Courage projects could be essays, art, or anything you want.

Seville Elementary School

We want to keep our September 11th memorial low key. We are asking students and staff to wear red, white and blue. The whole school is going to gather around the flagpole to sing and say the pledge. We will have a moment of silence and plant a tree in our butterfly garden.

Harrisburg Elementary School

First, next Wednesday, September 11th, we would like for ' everyone to wear red, white and blue to show our support for those who lost their lives in last year's tragedy, and to honor the heroes and families left behind. Second, we would like to create a "Pathway of Peace" by doing sidewalk chalk murals in the courtyard outside the library. Each mural will represent "PEACE" in some way. We would like to have two classes per grade level participate. Finally, we would like for each classroom to create cards to send to local firemen and women and police officers. These will be collected on Thursday morning and delivered to local fire and police stations. I think this will be a wonderful way to commemorate September 11th and to kick off the S.A.V.E. program here at Harrisburg Elementary.

Bunker Hill High School

My S.A.V.E. chapter has decided to have a dinner for our local emergency workers in honor of September 11th. We are unable to have the dinner on that day because other organizations had plan already. We will be having ours on Saturday, September 14th. Our school is doing a few smaller things on that day.

Moore Intermediate S.A.V.E. Eagles

Our chapter will have a school-wide commemorative program to acknowledge the September 11th anniversary. The members will sing, give brief speeches and end the program with a balloon launch.
