The National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) is proud to partner with the Allstate Foundation in Mississippi to support the youth safety and teen safe driving efforts of students through their SAVE Chapters.

2011-2012

National SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) in partnership with The Allstate Foundation is sponsoring 5 schools and chapters in Mississippi in an effort to promote teen driver safety awareness in America's youth. A $16,000 grant from The Allstate Foundation will allow National SAVE and The Allstate Foundation's Teen Safe Driving program to be implemented in selected schools, chapters, community agencies or related programs. Emphasis is to be placed on the hazards of texting and driving, cellphone related accidents and other dangers facing Generation Z's youth.

Participating schools/agencies:

  • Biloxi High School - Biloxi, MS
    Biloxi High School in Biloxi, MS is a new SAVE Chapters participating in the Allstate Foundation Southern region grant program this year. In November, the Save-A-Life Tour, an alcohol awareness program, presented at the school. The presentation included a drunk driving simulator and hard hitting real-life videos. In March, the Biloxi High School Campus Security Council with members of the Student Council conducted Project Impact, a DUI reenactment, the day before Prom. Mrs. Cheryl Walker, who lost her son to drunk driving, spoke to the students. Afterwards, the students went outside where the DUI scene was unfolding, with emergency responders on the scene. Many students said the event deterred them from drinking on Prom night. 23 The Biloxi High School SAVE Chapter advisor is Officer Daisy Watson.

    Biloxi teens get reality check before prom WLOX ~ April 6, 2012

  • Provine High School - Jackson, MS
    Sponsored by the Allstate Foundation, Provine High School established a new SAVE Chapter this school year. The chapter hosted a Teen Safe Driving event on May 8, 2012 which include the use of fatal-vision goggle demonstrations and an X the TXT campaign with the assistance of the Mississippi Department of Transportation. Allstate agent Samuel James of the Steven James Agency were also on hand to speak with students about the dangers of distracted driving. Participating Prom students signed the “Provine’s Prom SAVE Promise” and X the TXT banner. All signees receive an “X the TXT” t-shirt which was worn to school on May 10th, the day before the prom and the banners were displayed at the prom on May 11, 2012. The SAVE Chapter is advised by Levi Williams.

  • Forest Hill High School - Jackson, MS
    The SAVE Chapter at Forest Hill High School hosted a safe driving assembly and X the TXT event with Allstate agents Steven James and Samuel James in April 2012. Other community outreach activities consisted of peer-to-peer promotions designed to encourage students to share safe driving strategies. The SAVE Advisor for Forest Hill High School is Jonathan Anderson.

  • Callaway High School - Jackson, MS
    The SAVE Chapter at Callaway High School participated in National Youth Violence Prevention Week with a focus on road rage. The Mississippi Department of Transportation assisted with a simulator that demonstrated the dangers of texting while driving by making steering more difficult; another simulator highlighted the consequences of not wearing a seatbelt. A rollover simulation showed how easy a body can become a projectile. Samuel James of the Steven James Allstate Agency was on hand to speak to students. Other actvities throughout the spring included the announcements of seatbelt-use statistics at halftime during sporting events and displaying posters promoting seatbelt use. The SAVE Advisor for Callaway High School is Becky Cornelius.
