The National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) invites you to participate in National SAVE Day! Mark your calendars for this important event to take place on October 18, 2006. This event occurs during National Safe Schools Week.

A national survey commissioned by Crayola revealed that if kids could erase a problem from the world, it would be violence. Of the 1,000 kids who participated in the Erase It! Survey, 33% selected violence, followed by school bullies (18%), homelessness (16%), illness (14%), hunger (13%) and pollution (4%). Crayola fielded the survey to give kids a voice in deciding where the company should direct its Erase It! Fund donation and the opportunity to draw what was on their minds. Because kids rated violence as their top concern, Crayola donated funds to Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) to support its anti-violence education programs during National SAVE Day in more than 1,600 schools across the country. Planning some great SAVE events as part of National SAVE Day during National Safe Schools Week? If your chapter will be preforming violence prevention skits be sure to enter the National SAVE Youth Voices... Grown-Up Choices! Skit Contest.

Guidelines:

• Submit your typed skits by November 1, 2005 via regular mail:

• Be sure to include your advisor's name, chapter name, address and phone number on your skit.

• Skits submitted become the property of the National Association of SAVE and have the potential to be printed in the SAVE essentials manual and shared on the SAVE website.

• The winning skit will be preformed at the National SAVE Summit, with the chapter receiving 6 free registrations to the Summit.

• SAMPLE SAVE DAY PROCLAMATION - A sample proclamation that you can use to have your principal, mayor or governor proclaim October 19, 2005 as National SAVE Day in your school, community or state.

• SAMPLE SAVE DAY MEDIA ADVISORY - A draft media advisory into which you can insert your chapters name, location and activities to share with local media about the great things your chapter is planning for National SAVE Day.

• Examples of what Chapters are planning or did for National SAVE Day - View what other chapters are planning or have done for National SAVE Day on the Youth Voices Forum. Be sure to send us what your chapter is planning for National SAVE Day so we can share the ideas with other chapters!
