STUDENTS AGAINST VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE ~ Nationally Recognized for Efforts
The National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE)
and its members have been recognized for their youth led violence prevention efforts
by a number of organizations and violence prevention experts.

Adolescent Health Citizen of the Year Award from the Virginias/Carolinas Regional Chapter of the
Society For Adolescent Medicine.
2007 Festival of Lanterns - Tri-Association Awards Dinner:
The Security Industry Association, National Burglar And Fire
Alarm Association and Central Station Alarm Association chose
SAVE as designated charity.
Spotlight of School Safety Programs:
The National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS) Administered by
the Office of Justice Programs at the US Department of Justice recently
placed National SAVE in the Spotlight of School Safety Programs nationally.
The NCJRS states that "Students Against Violence Everywhere chapters
emphasize and encourage an attitude of nonviolence. Through school and
community events, students in elementary, middle, and high school promote
nonviolent solutions to conflicts."
Presidential Student Service Award: Marissa Shapiro,
Christian Gonzalez and Michael Register, members of the 2006-2007 SAVE Youth Advisory
Board (YAB) received the Presidential Student Service Award for their hard work with SAVE through
the YAB.

Taushia Brooks, and Amber Virtue, members of the 2005-2006 SAVE Youth Advisory
Board (YAB), received the Presidential Student Service Award for their hard work with SAVE through
the YAB.

Catherine Tee, Sarah Gillespie, and Britt Hinchliff, members of the 2003-2004 SAVE Youth Advisory
Board (YAB) received the Presidential Student Service Award for their hard work with SAVE through
the YAB.
Inspiration in Prevention Award: The National Association of SAVE received the
Inspiration in Prevention Award from Youth Crime Watch
of American and The National Crime Prevention Council, February 16, 2004

SAVE Youth Advisory Board members received individual Presidential Student Service Awards for their
hard work with SAVE through the YAB.
Erika Harold, Miss America 2003: As part of her
platform of school violence prevention, Erika Harold, Miss America 2003, promoted SAVE as an
effective program.
USA Today: SAVE survey featured on the front
page of USA Today on April 11, 2002.
2002 Winter Olympics: SAVE members were torch
bearers and support runners for the 2002 Winter Olympics.
Presidential Student Service Awards: The
2001-2002 SAVE Youth Advisory Board members received individual Presidential Student Service Awards
for their work with SAVE through the YAB.
Establishment of Nonprofit: In 2001 the
National Association of SAVE was established as a nonprofit for the continued growth of the program.
Children’s Defense Fund: Angelena Bynum, student
founder of SAVE was recognized by the Children’s Defense Fund in 1996.
President’s Service Award: In 1995, SAVE was
bestowed the President’s Service Award (the nation’s highest volunteer award) for dedication and
determination in keeping the message of nonviolence known and keeping our schools and communities
safe.
Corporation for National and Community Service:
SAVE responded to and was recognized by President Bill Clinton for its efforts with the corporation.
Daily Point of Light: On August 28, 1992
SAVE was recognized as the 875th "Daily Point of Light" by former President George H. W. Bush. Award was received by Gary Weart, the first SAVE Chapter Advisor.
