STUDENTS AGAINST VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE ~
CHAPTER SPOTLIGHT
ADAMS ELEMENTARY 2007 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SAVE CHAPTER OF THE YEAR
The SAVE Chapter at Adams Elementary School was recognized by the
National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE)
for their efforts in preventing school violence. At the 11th Annual SAVE Summit in Raleigh, NC, the Adams
Elementary SAVE Chapter received the SAVE Chapter of the Year Award.
The SAVE Summit concluded National Youth Violence Prevention Week across
the country (March 26-30, 2007).
The Adams Elementary SAVE chapter had a very busy year!
They were active in promoting back-to-school safety; participated in the National SAVE Rock-A-Thon, assisted
in donating 1,105 pounds of food to their local food bank, learned peer mediation and helped to spread the SAVE
message in their school and community. The chapter's advisor is Counselor Ann Young.

KERNODLE MIDDLE SCHOOL 2007 MIDDLE SCHOOL SAVE CHAPTER OF THE YEAR
The SAVE Chapter at Kernodle Middle
School was recognized by the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) for their efforts
in preventing school violence. At the 11th Annual SAVE Summit in Raleigh, NC, the Kernodle Middle School
SAVE Chapter received the SAVE
Chapter of the Year Award. The SAVE Summit concluded National Youth
Violence Prevention Week across the country.
The Kernodle Middle School SAVE Chapter had a busy year with participating
in the National SAVE Rock-A-Thon, hosting an information booth at their
local YMCA and sponsoring a production by Periwinkle National Theatre for the student body and for the community.
The chapter has had over 20 meetings so far this year and in each meeting they stressed crime prevention and
conflict management skills for their members. Charles Burns, principal at Kernodle, says that "Our SAVE chapter
plays an important role in maintaining the culture and climate of our school which is a safe, nurturing
and supportive one. Our SAVE members take an active role in modeling

MONTAGUE HIGH SCHOOL 2007 HIGH SCHOOL CHAPTER OF THE YEAR
The SAVE Chapter at Montague High School on Prince Edward Island was
recognized by the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere
(SAVE) for their efforts in preventing school violence. At the
11th Annual SAVE Summit in Raleigh, NC, it was announced that the
Montague SAVE Chapter was receiving the
SAVE Chapter of the Year Award.
The SAVE Summit concluded National Youth Violence Prevention Week.
This award is a highly coveted award and the over 1600 SAVE
Chapters compete to receive the award annually. The Montague SAVE
Chapter has had a busy year in their efforts to prevent violence in their school and community. They hosted a
silent witness program at their high school, created commercials that aired on local radio stations, conducted
various fundraisers, launched their own website and created videos for their website. They had their mayor
declare National SAVE week in Montague and the sign at the entrance of
Main Street proclaimed the event. The chapter worked closely with local Family Violence Prevention Services
agencies spreading the SAVE messages to students and adults in the community. The chapter meets weekly and is
very visible and proactive in the community.
