DENISE MCCOY
EAST GARNER MIDDLE SCHOOL
2007 ADVISOR OF THE YEAR

Diane Fish, SAVE Advisor at East Garner Middle School, was recognized by the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) for her volunteer work and efforts in preventing school violence. The 2006-2007 National SAVE Advisor of the Year Award was awarded to Ms. Fish for outstanding performance and lasting contributions to the school, community, and students and for exemplifying the ideals of SAVE. Fish received the award at the 11th Annual SAVE Summit. The SAVE Summit concluded National Youth Violence Prevention Week across the country.

Miss Fish is a motivated and dedicated SAVE Chapter advisor. She is always excited at each SAVE meeting and continually demonstrates her passion to end all violence everywhere. She is crucial in leading the chapter in meetings, activities, and fundraisers. Diane serves as a mentor to the SAVE Club members. They consider her a trusted adult with excellent advice. Some of these students have very serious issues that Diane often finds herself working with the guidance counselors in order to help them beyond a normal mentoring capacity. Diane promotes SAVE whenever possible, making sure that any SAVE events or meetings news is disseminated through announcements, publications and weekly phone messages. One of her SAVE members, Arial Witman, says that "Ms. Fish is so easy to talk to. I know I can go to her about everything. She's taught me to be brave and to not let people get away with picking on me or other kids."

"Diane Fish, embodies the ideals of SAVE and is a model for SAVE advisors everywhere." stated Dr. Pamela L. Riley, Executive Director of SAVE. "SAVE's vision is for all students to be able to attend schools that are safe and secure, free of fear, and conducive to learning." As more students join SAVE chapters, we are moving closer to making our vision for safer schools a reality."

During her tenure as SAVE Advisor of the Year, Ms. Fish will serve on the National Association of SAVE Board of Directors. Her hands on work and knowledge with SAVE will be a valuable asset for the Board of Directors. Ms. Fish was nominated for this prestigious award by her students and other advisors at East Garner Middle School. She competed against advisors from across the country. More Info
