STUDENTS AGAINST VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE ~
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
SAVE 2007 STUDENT OF THE YEAR - Cameron Mitchell Casey Story, an eighth grade student at East Garner Middle School, was recognized by the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) for her volunteer work and efforts in preventing school violence. The 2006-2007 National SAVE Student of the Year Award was awarded to Casey for outstanding performance and lasting contributions to the school, community, and students and for exemplifying the ideals of SAVE. Story received the award at the 11th Annual SAVE Summit. The SAVE Summit concluded National Youth Violence Prevention Week across the country (March 26-30, 2007).
Cameron Mitchell, a fourth grade student at Stewart Elementary, was recognized by the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) for his volunteer work and efforts in preventing school violence. The 2006-2007 National SAVE Student of the Year Award was awarded to Cameron for outstanding performance and lasting contributions to the school, community, and students and for exemplifying the ideals of SAVE. Mitchell received the award at the 11th Annual SAVE Summit. The SAVE Summit concluded National Youth Violence Prevention Week across the country (March 26-30, 2007). Stewart Elementary received assistance from the DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund to support their SAVE efforts this year.
Cameron is a member of the Stewart Elementary SAVE Chapter advised by Dionne Melton. Melton states that "Cameron
exemplifies strong character traits such as care, concern, citizenship and trustworthiness." On a field trip this
year, Cameron witnessed some peers stealing candy. He stood up for what is right and told them to put it back. He
is a peer mediator and counsels peers on his recess time. Cameron is always willing to take a stand for children
who are being teased or bullied. Cameron also coordinated and inspired a school-wide drive to collect household and
personal items for a needy family. Cameron was recognized for being an outstanding SAVE member and upholding
SAVE's ideals. Congratulations, Cameron!
