James Phagan Wilson

James Phagan (JP) Wilson, a junior at Ira ISD High School, was recognized by the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) for his volunteer work and efforts in youth safety efforts, including safe teen driving. The 2009-2010 National SAVE Student of the Year Award was awarded to James for outstanding performance and lasting contributions to the school, community, and students and for exemplifying the ideals of SAVE.

“JP had a busy year making a positive difference and changing the lives of others. Since being in the SAVE Chapter he has taken on role as the president and has been awesome for us in getting our group more involved in activities and helping in community projects.” stated Katrina Reynolds, IRA’s SAVE Chapter advisor. “JP has applied to serve on SAVE’s National Youth Advisory Board and would also like to be involved in SAVE on a college level, he told me recently that being in SAVE has made a difference in his life and he just hopes that he can do the same for others. I would only hope that every SAVE group has their own “JP” in their SAVE chapter. I know he has been a delight for me to have as a SAVE coordinator and I will enjoy having him as a senior next year.”

“JP embodies the ideals of SAVE and is a model for SAVE members everywhere.” stated Dr. Pamela L. Riley. “For 20 years, Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE), a student-led public nonprofit organization, has educated and empowered young people in schools and community-based organizations to do their part to prevent violence and promote youth safety. SAVE students are actively making a real difference in their schools and communities.”
