STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
SAVE 2007 STUDENT OF THE YEAR - Betsy Prosise
Elizabeth (Betsy) Prosise, a senior at Eastern Greene High School, was recognized by the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) for her volunteer work and efforts in preventing school violence. The 2006-2007 National SAVE Student of the Year Award was awarded to Betsy for outstanding performance and lasting contributions to the school, community, and students and for exemplifying the ideals of SAVE. Prosise received the award at the 11th Annual SAVE Summit. The SAVE Summit concluded National Youth Violence Prevention Week across the country (March 26-30, 2007). The Eastern Greene SAVE Chapters activities have been sponsored in part by the Allstate Foundation this school year.
Betsy served as a junior advisor to the elementary and junior high SAVE Chapters for Eastern Greene schools.
She volunteered her time and energy to work with and beside elementary and junior high SAVE members. Betsy is a
constant role model for the school and her peers. She assists SAVE members in writing anti-bullying skits for SAVE
rallies, organizes monthly school-wide events on conflict management, and speaks to other schools about taking a
proactive approach with violence prevention. She not only talks the talk, but lives the life. Her daily life is a
testament to finding peaceful solutions and servicing others. Her principal stated that "Betsy is a great role
model for younger SAVE members through her helpful, friendly and kind personality. Betsy's positive leadership has
helped lead our SAVE chapter towards the state and national recognition it has received."
