STUDENTS AGAINST VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE ~
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

2008 NATIONAL SAVE STUDENTS OF THE YEAR

Darnella Reeder

Darnella Reeder, an eighth grade student at Jackson Middle School, was recognized by the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) for her volunteer work and efforts in preventing school violence. The 2007-2008 National SAVE Student of the Year Award was awarded to Darnella for outstanding performance and lasting contributions to the school, community, and students and for exemplifying the ideals of SAVE.

Darnella takes pride in her position as President of the Jackson Middle School SAVE Club. She is passionate and genuine when learning and sharing the SAVE message with the student body. Darnella has led panel discussions on dating violence and peer pressure; coordinated a SAVE dance; and under her leadership, SAVE chapter membership has rose significantly. She is not limited to her own school but has arranged for the SAVE chapter to visit the elementary school and speak on conflict management. Service projects include "Kans for Kids Campaign", pennies for pasta for Lymphoma and Leukemia Society; and the chapter raised over $3,000.00 for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
