Dr.
Pamela L. Riley
Executive Director
Dr. Pamela L. Riley
is the Executive Director of the National Association
of Students Against Violence Everywhere. SAVE
is
a nonprofit organization that strives to decrease the
potential for violence in our schools and communities
by promoting student involvement in crime prevention,
conflict management, and service learning activities.
She was drawn to her current position because of her desire
to ensure that schools are able to fulfill their educational
missions. Her previous work in schools exposed her to
the fact that schools today are in need of assistance
to ensure that they are places which are free of crime
and conducive to learning.
Dr. Riley was the Executive Director of the Center
for the Prevention of School Violence from its establishment
in 1993 until joining SAVE
in late 2000. As Executive Director of the Center she
was a primary point of contact for information, programs,
and research about the problem of school violence and
efforts directed at preventing it from occurring. Her
work provided a bridge for cooperation between various
agencies involved in school violence prevention.
Dr. Riley was also a high school principal and was
responsible for implementing creative curriculum and
management strategies. Dr. Riley also worked in North
Carolina's Department of Public Instruction (DPI) as
an education consultant and instructional specialist
with expertise in citizenship education. She also taught
history and social studies at the middle and high school
levels.
Dr. Riley serves as the Associate Editor of the
Journal on School Violence and as the Violence-Free
section editor for the Guidance Channel's monthly EZine.
She is a frequent speaker at the US Department
of Justice conferences sponsored by the Office of Juvenile
Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Cops in Schools
Program of the Community-Oriented Policing Office. She
has received numerous school violence prevention
awards from education and law enforcement groups nationwide.
In her capacity as SAVE's
Executive Director and former Director of the Center,
Dr. Riley is viewed as a national expert on school violence
prevention and has been interviewed by numerous local,
state, national, and international media. She holds
an Ed.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
