STUDENTS AGAINST VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE ~ STAFF


Dr. Pamela L. Riley
Executive Director

Dr. Pamela L. Riley is the Executive Director of the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere. SAVE is a nonprofit organization that strives to decrease the potential for violence in our schools and communities by promoting student involvement in crime prevention, conflict management, and service learning activities. She was drawn to her current position because of her desire to ensure that schools are able to fulfill their educational missions. Her previous work in schools exposed her to the fact that schools today are in need of assistance to ensure that they are places which are free of crime and conducive to learning.

Dr. Riley was the Executive Director of the Center for the Prevention of School Violence from its establishment in 1993 until joining SAVE in late 2000. As Executive Director of the Center she was a primary point of contact for information, programs, and research about the problem of school violence and efforts directed at preventing it from occurring. Her work provided a bridge for cooperation between various agencies involved in school violence prevention.

Dr. Riley was also a high school principal and was responsible for implementing creative curriculum and management strategies. Dr. Riley also worked in North Carolina's Department of Public Instruction (DPI) as an education consultant and instructional specialist with expertise in citizenship education. She also taught history and social studies at the middle and high school levels.

Dr. Riley serves as the Associate Editor of the Journal on School Violence and as the Violence-Free section editor for the Guidance Channel's monthly EZine. She is a frequent speaker at the US Department of Justice conferences sponsored by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention and the Cops in Schools Program of the Community-Oriented Policing Office. She has received numerous school violence prevention awards from education and law enforcement groups nationwide.

In her capacity as SAVE's Executive Director and former Director of the Center, Dr. Riley is viewed as a national expert on school violence prevention and has been interviewed by numerous local, state, national, and international media. She holds an Ed.D. from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.


Carleen Wray
Assistant Director

Carleen Wray is the Assistant Director of the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE). National SAVE is the primary point of contact, as well as the coordinating agency, for the Students Against Violence Everywhere program nationally and internationally. SAVE is a nonprofit organization that strives to decrease the potential for violence in our schools and communities by promoting student involvement in crime prevention, conflict management, and service learning activities.

Ms. Wray oversees the programs and operations of National SAVE She works with federal, state and local agencies, community leaders, and school systems in their efforts to involve students in the prevention of school violence. Ms. Wray was drawn to her current position by the desire to work in a proactive area of juvenile justice and the desire to reach students at earlier ages to enhance positive behavior.

Ms. Wray worked most recently as the Assistant Director at the Center for the Prevention of School Violence from its inception in 1993 till 2001. She joined National SAVE in the Spring of 2001. She has also worked with the North Carolina Department of Correction and the North Carolina Injury Prevention Section. Ms. Wray has served as a Pre-trial release coordinator and has worked extensively in the juvenile justice area. Ms. Wray has a bachelor's degree in Justice and Public Policy from North Carolina Wesleyan in Rocky Mount, NC and is currently pursuing her Master's Degree in Public Administration at North Carolina State University. She is a certified court mediator, and is also a national trainer for law-related education and conflict management projects. Ms. Wray has conducted workshops around the country and has been interviewed by local and national media.


Ellyn Duvall
Business Manager

Ellyn Duvall is the Business Manager of the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE). Ms. Duvall is responsible for coordinating the awareness, implementation and support to SAVE chapters around the country. She also oversees the daily operations and finances at SAVE's national headquarters in Raleigh, NC.

Prior to her position at SAVE, Ms. Duvall was the Community Development Specialist at the Center for the Prevention of School Violence where she worked with the SAVE program in North Carolina. At the Center she was also involved with statewide law-related education and citizenship development programs and student competitions. Ms. Duvall also has over 4 years of experience with Pitt County Schools in Greenville, NC, where she first became involved with violence prevention programs in the education system. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland.
