STUDENTS AGAINST VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE
Each year the National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere
hosts an annual Summit for students, advisors, and community members
to celebrate the success of SAVE chapters for the year.
Chapter members lead workshop sessions, display accomplishments in Exhibit
Alley, and have the opportunity to network with students from across the country.
10th ANNUAL SAVE SUMMIT:
ERASING THE COLORS OF VIOLENCE
April 1, 2006
NCSU McKimmon Center
Raleigh, North Carolina
The National SAVE Summit is a great undertaking that the National Youth
Advisory Board plans every year. This year our theme is SAVE - Erasing the
Colors of Violence. We will have prominent keynote speakers who share
our views about violence prevention. All events at the National SAVE Summit,
including all general sessions and workshops, are led by students. Every
participant in the Summit receives valuable educational information from
exhibits, hears from outstanding speakers, and has the opportunity to network
with other students across the country who are making a difference. The
students will also have the opportunity to participate in an on-site national
service project which this year includes the collection of coloring books and
crayons to be distributed to needy children.

PERIWINKLE NATIONAL THEATRE
This year's Summit will showcase "HALFWAY THERE: A TRUE STORY OF PERSONAL TRIUMPHS OVER SUBSTANCE USE," a production of the
highly acclaimed PERIWINKLE NATIONAL THEATRE, a highly trained multi-cultural theatrical program that deals with a myriad of
social issues at all curriculum levels (K-Senior High) to reach kids where lectures fail. The Periwinkle team creates its live
theatre and drama education curriculums based on student needs. It is in daily dialogue with today's young people and the company
constantly refines its work to reflect a quickly changing youth culture.
FISH THE MAGISH: BEWARE, BATTLING BULLIES
For our younger participants, "Beware, Battling Bullies" is a fun way to look
at this very serious subject. It will be an audience participation magic show
that defines bullies, as well as,
teaches students specific strategies to help them when confronted by a bully.
Fish the Magish adds magic to K-7 groups in hundreds of schools each year.
A full time magician, Fish the Magish, specializes in magic for children, his
comedy educational presentation will include a refreshing mix of storytelling,
lively audience participation, and magical surprises for everyone! (Including
adults)
"Fish the Magish was great! The lessons taught were very appropriate for
the age level. I appreciated what Fish the Magish taught the children about
bullies and honesty." Debbie Brock- Brentwood Elementary, 5th grade teacher,
Fayetteville, NC
"Absolutely wonderful! You had me in tears I was laughing so hard! Your
stories include both lessons and hilarious humor…for the young students, and
adults as well!" Laurie Butler, 2nd Grade Teacher, Sangaree Elementary,

PICTURE THIS! CALL FOR SAVE PHOTOS
National SAVE is once again creating a
BIG SCREEN SLIDE SHOW to acknowledge the achievements of SAVE
chapters. In order to make the show as diverse and inclusive as possible, we
need photos by March 1, 2006 showing active work by your chapter
(i.e. service projects, meetings, skits, etc.) Label the back of each photo
with: 1) School/ Chapter name; 2) Advisor name; 3) Date and Name of Event
pictured (and possibly names of students in the photo). This is YOUR BIG
CHANCE TO SHOW OFF ALL YOUR HARD WORK!! Photos will be kept for the National

COLOR OUR WORLD WITH LOVE! COLORING BOOK CONTEST
SAVE Chapters are encouraged to create a
coloring book focusing on a violence prevention topic of their choice.
The coloring books should be no longer than 12 pages of 8 1/2" X 11" paper. Coloring
books will be voted on at the Summit with the winning coloring book being submitted
for possible duplication and distribution to SAVE
chapters nationwide. Coloring books should be sent to the National SAVE
office no later than March 1, 2006.
CREATE A CRAYON TO DISPLAY AT THE SUMMIT!
Help us to Erase the Colors of Violence by having a presence at the
Summit. Chapters are encouraged to create poster crayons to display at the National
SAVE Summit! Have your chapter represented at this
important event through signage. Suggestions for submission:
- Create one large crayon with a nonviolence theme or pledge and have all of your
SAVE chapters sign;
- Have each chapter member create/design their own nonviolence crayon on
8 1/2" X 11" paper;
However your chapter chooses to participate in this activity, be sure to send
in your crayon(s) before March 1, 2006 and include your chapters name, city and state!
