KEYNOTE SPEAKERS
Miss Virginia 2006 Adrianna Sgarlata
You can feel Adrianna Sgarlata's love for children just being in her presence.
She began championing the cause for bullied children since she herself was bullied
from grade school through high school. Her life took an unexpected turn when she
met a mother, Brenda, whose son, only 13, died by bullycide (a form of suicide
caused from depression from being bullied). Brenda led Adrianna to dozens of
other parents in the same situation. After crying buckets of tears, over many
days, weeks, even months, Adrianna knew she had to do something. She helped
lobby to change laws to protect victims of bullying in all 50 States. Adrianna
successfully initiated and lobbied for two anti-bullying bills that passed almost
unanimously and were signed into law by the Governor of Virginia. With laws on
the books, it was time to get the word out that bullying, in any form, physical
violence, or psychological harassment over the Internet, is illegal. As Miss
Virginia 2006 (competing in January to become Miss America 2007), Adrianna turned
to SAVE to help spread the word, one student at a time.
As a National Spokesperson for SAVE, Adrianna hopes to bring attention to the
most serious issue facing our schools, and communities - violence of students
against students. As we fight the war against terrorism at home and overseas,
Adrianna, through SAVE, wants to ensure that our students are not fighting with
one another. Her simple message of behaving respectfully and valuing others can
reach into the complicated lives of today's youth and have a positive impact.
Adrianna will share valuable information with students on how they can play an
active role in preventing violence in their schools and communities.
Jody M. Roy, Ph.D. - Beyond Hate
Jody M. Roy, Ph.D., will help students better understand why some
people hate and how we all can help move our world beyond hate. Dr. Roy is
the author of Love to Hate: America's Obsession with Hatred and Violence and
the founder of Students Talking About Respect, STAR, which is now part of
the SAVE program. For more than 15 years,
Dr. Roy has been helping students,
educators, and law enforcement officers nation-wide better understand the
hatred that motivates violence. In addition to her work to prevent hatred,
Dr. Roy is a Professor of Communication at Ripon College in Wisconsin. The
Carnegie Foundation named Dr. Roy Wisconsin's Professor of the Year in 2006;
in 2005, the National Speakers Association declared Roy America's
outstanding communication professor.

Violence is Not an Illusion The Magic of Joseph Daniels
Joseph Daniels "The Queen City's Premiere Entertainer" will be performing
at the National SAVE Youth Summit. Hailing from Charlotte, NC, Joseph's highly
charged blend of magic, comedy, & audience participation will join this very
prestigious event, to connect with the audience on a whole new level. From the
age of five, Joseph has been infatuated with the lure of that most
mysterious and secret fringe of the performing arts; the art of magic.
This passion led to literally a lifetime spent in the study of, and training
from, the absolute best in the fields of magic, public speaking, theatre,
television, & film. With degrees in theatre, television, & film production,
and professional experience in the worlds of business, acting, motivational
speaking, event planning and promotion, Joseph and his team will bring to
SAVE, the stunning visuals, hilarious interactions, and touching
connections, that have kept his show in such demand in corporate America.
"The Secret is Out!" Even Fortune 500 companies like I.B.M. & Pepsi have
discovered the award winning magic of illusionist Joseph Daniels. After
more than two decades entertaining audiences from coast to coast, and now,
internationally, Joseph's innovative illusionary skill is garnering the
attention of some of the biggest names in business and entertainment. As

coming actor, director, consultant, & writer. After appearances in feature
films like My Fellow Americans, Patch Adams, Forces of Nature, & 28 Days,
Joseph's elegant sleight of hand magic has earned several notable celebrity
fans. Robin Williams, Lauren Bacall, Sandra Bullock, and Ben Affleck have
all been enchanted by Joseph's magic. Premiere performances for VIP
screenings of the film Smokin' Aces and corporate level appearances for
Pepsi's product launch program have cemented his standing as a creative
force to be reckoned with. Based in Charlotte, NC & on tour throughout
North America, Joseph Daniels is booking performances well into 2010.
2006 - 2007 National SAVE Service Project: Team Up for Kids!
This year’s national service project entitled, Team Up for Kids, involves
chapters creating care packages for students. The National Youth Advisory Board
suggests purchasing backpacks and filling them with essential items including
school supplies, toiletries, etc. Chapters are encouraged to provide them to
the social worker in their own school or neighboring schools to distribute to
students in need. Chapters who attend the summit are asked to bring some of
the care packages to the summit.
Display Your SAVE "TEAM" at the Summit!
Help us to Team Up for a Better Tomorrow by making your presence known at the
Summit. Chapters are encouraged to create a visual of their SAVE Team to
display at the National SAVE Summit!
Be creative! Suggestions include:
- a poster with your SAVE Team picture.
- a banner with members represented as sports symbols
- one large team jersey with all of their members names.
However your chapter chooses to participate in this activity, be sure to send
in your items before March 1, 2007 and include your chapters name, city and state!
Picture This! Call for Photos
National SAVE is once again creating a big screen slide show to acknowledge the
achievements of SAVE chapters. In order to make the show as inclusive as
possible, we need photos by February 15, 2007 showing active work by your
chapter (i.e. service projects, meetings, skits, etc.).
Please email your pictures to cwray@nationalsave.org or mail them to the
National SAVE office. Don't forget to include the following with each photo:
1. School/ Chapter name
2. Advisor name
3. Date and Name of Event pictured (and possibly names of students in the photo)
Photos will be kept for the National SAVE photo albums and exhibits.
A Better Tomorrow Chant Contest
SAVE Summit participants have always enjoyed the SAVE-A-Chunga and other
chants/cheers at the Summit. Now it is your Chapter's chance to create a chant!
Please send National SAVE a copy of your chant/cheer including your chapter name,
city and state before March 1. Winning chants/cheers will be performed at the
Summit. If your chapter attends the Summit, you can have the chance to be on
stage and lead 1,000 voices in unison in your chant/cheer.
Teambuilding Contest
The National SAVE Youth Advisory Board is challenging each SAVE Chapter across
the country to create a teambuilding activity and submit it to National SAVE.
These activities will be compiled and shared with SAVE Chapters at the Summit
and on the National SAVE website. Encouraging positive conflict management
and working together is an important part of SAVE's philosophy. Share how your
chapter is working together as a team in a fun way! A special session at this
year's Summit will allow participants to experience the winning teambuilding
activities. Send in your Teambuilding Activity before March 1, 2007 and include
your chapter's name, city and state!
SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES
All of the materials and expenses
associated with the Summit are donated by businesses and community organizations
and, consequently, all contributing corporations, businesses, and groups are
highly recognized in print and on signage displayed at the Summit. Just think,
over 1,200 individuals from across the nation will see how much you care about
aiding in making safer schools and communities!
We would appreciate your assistance with our fight against violence.
Although monetary donations are our greatest need, we will most certainly
appreciate in-kind services or other materials that you could donate. Any
possible donation from your business will be greatly appreciated. We are a
national non-profit organization with 501(c)3 status and all gifts are tax
