2008 SAVE ADVISORS OF THE YEAR!
CHRISTINE TOLBERT
PHILLIPS MIDDLE SCHOOL
Christine Tolbert, a guidance counselor at Phillips Middle School,
was recognized by the National Association of Students Against Violence
Everywhere (SAVE) for her volunteer
work and efforts in preventing school violence as a SAVE Advisor.
The 2007-2008 National SAVE Advisor of the Year Award was awarded
to Ms. Tolbert for outstanding performance and lasting contributions
to the school, community, and students and for exemplifying the ideals
of SAVE. Tolbert received
her award at the 12th Annual SAVE
Summit in Raleigh, NC.
Ms. Tolbert works daily with the students regarding the SAVE
program and teaching mediation skills. She coordinates sessions
to keep SAVE a valuable resource
for the entire school. Christine motivates the students in fun
ways to take charge of their lives by using leadership skills
to become more successful. She is consistent in promoting the
importance of serving others and resolving conflict through
non-violent means. Students comment that she has helped them
to overcome and believe in themselves. Principal William
Etheridge states that "Ms. Tolbert's enthusiasm is contagious."
She has coordinated and advised the Phillips Middle School SAVE
chapter in several service projects including military
greetings for the NC Blue Star Mothers, fund drives for Pennies
for Patients and the Food Bank of Central & Eastern NC.
