STUDENTS AGAINST VIOLENCE EVERYWHERE ~
STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
2011 NATIONAL SAVE STUDENT OF THE YEAR
Jessica Weber
Jessica Weber, a sophomore at Cuthbertson High School, was recognized by the National Association of Students
Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) for her volunteer work and efforts in youth safety efforts, including safe teen driving.
The 2010-2011 National SAVE Student of the Year Award was awarded to Jessica for outstanding performance and lasting contributions
to the school, community, and students and for exemplifying the ideals of SAVE.
“Jessica singlehandedly started our school’s SAVE Chapter. In the spring of 2010, Jessica took part in a presentation on
domestic violence, and at the end of it, came to me and said ‘I’ve never been a victim, but nobody deserves to be. How can I
help?’” stated Leah Ross, Cuthbertson’s SAVE Chapter advisor. “From there, she researched clubs relating to violence prevention
and chose the one she felt fit our community’s needs the best; even organizing toy and blanket drives for the local child abuse
center over her summer holiday. Since she started this club last fall, Jessica has done all of the recruiting and it has grown
to almost a dozen dedicated members, and dozens more have been affected by her dedication and commitment to the cause. Jessica
is the heart and soul of this club and she is only a sophomore in high school; we are already recruiting members for the next
school year and have planned summer events to keep the momentum going strong.”

2011 NATIONAL SAVE STUDENT OF THE YEAR - HONORABLE MENTION
Michele Gay
Michele Gay, a junior at Chapel Hill High School, was recognized by the National Association of Students
Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) for her volunteer work and efforts in youth safety efforts, including safe teen driving.
The 2010-2011 National SAVE Student of the Year Award - Honorable Mention was awarded to Michele for outstanding performance and lasting contributions
to the school, community, and students and for exemplifying the ideals of SAVE.
“Michelle has been a very active SAVE Member for the past 3 years. This year she's served as our chapter President and led us in a number of fun and successful activities. She sets a great example for the younger chapter members through her positive attitude, sense of humor, hard work and dedication to SAVE,” stated Jim Wise, Chapel Hill High School’s SAVE advisor. “Michelle is one of the most kind and thoughtful students that I have dealt with over the years. She has time to listen to and support her peers, and she possesses a strong moral compass that helps her to make great decisions and helps encourage others to do the same. Through Michelle's leadership, ideas and enthusiasm, our chapter has been able to accomplish awareness campaigns on several important issues. All of our campaigns have generated conversations and questions from students and staff and have lead to increased awareness of the issue we were publicizing. Michelle is a strong student, leader, and all around wonderful individual. We are fortunate to have her as a student at Chapel Hill High School and as our SAVE Chapter President this year.”
